Team Brown What can Brown do for you?
Frequently Asked Questions - National President
Below are questions that members have posed to Curtis M. Brown, Candidate for National President. If you have more questions, send an email to: info@anqteambrown.com or use this form.
01
You endorsed National President Patterson for the past election, why are you running against him now?
When I decided not to run in 2008, I felt comfortable in the fact that my Vice President who had served with me for years would carry on the assignment given to me. In recent month's I was rebuked by God concerning this mindset. He specifically told me that "I gave you that assignment and no one else can do what I have placed in your hands to do". National President Patterson and I discussed this in great detail and I am not running against him. I am running in obedience to God.

I joined ANQ within the last 3 years. How were previous administrations different from the current administration?
This administration is all about "What Can We Do For You?". When I was National President from 1995-2008, we were in the ground stages of development and growth. We developed and three-pronged approach to our operations: Membership, Money, and Ministry. Under my administration we had a strong emphasis on Membership, growing from 2 chapters to 25. One of the greatest accomplishments, I believe, under National President Patterson was the unprecedented financial growth of Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. This time around, the Lord has impressed upon me the need for a more concerted emphasis on Ministry - both internally and externally. He wants us to understand that we cannot love the organization Alpha Nu Omega more than we love our members. Our relationships with our members and the students and/or faculty we serve must be our focus. YOU are what will make this administration different!
02
What will you do to ensure that other younger men and women are qualified to run for the office of National President?
This administration will provide opportunities to younger brothers and sisters to serve as leaders on regional and national committees. These opportunities will allow for mentorship and leadership training. We will continue to host annual leadership conferences and leadership training at convention. Specific to the office of National President, I must focus on the incoming National and Regional Officers to prepare them be the next National President.
03
How will the administration maintain transparency in a way that allows members to stay engaged and to hold the administration accountable?
This administration will return to providing Annual Reports to the members, August of each year. Additionally, Lifetime members will receive annual updates as outlined in the Lifetime Member benefits plan. I’m not certain what is meant by transparency allowing for member engagement; however members are always free to ask questions and embrace the vision through their local chapters.
04
Will something be done with the ANQ house in Baltimore? What is the plan?
The Current national board has begun renovations to the building. The initial plan has been to use the building as a National Headquarters and rent out a portion for offices.
Are you open to putting the house on the market?
Yes, in recent weeks the church next door has been purchased and they have expressed an interest in our building. As a corporation we must be open to what is in the best interest of the organization. Property is an investment. If we can secure a return on our investment that makes sense of our ministry then we have to be open.
05
How do we plan on measuring the “Gospel saturation” on different campuses?
First, we need to gather the population stats for each campus. We are looking at smarter ways of reaching the campuses with the gospel (i.e.. billboards in sports arenas, campus newspaper, campus TV commercials, campus radio commercials, etc.) Each of these mediums already tracks attendance and reach. Obtaining this data, we will know how many we reach with the gospel message.
06
Why do you believe you’re the best person for this position?
I wouldn’t say that I am the best for the position of National President. However, for the work that needs to be accomplished to ensure our infrastructure is strengthened for the future, it is the assignment God gave to me. Right now, in this moment-with our current organizational structure, it requires that I be National President.
07
What, in your opinion, is the purpose of ANQ?
The purpose of ANQ is a fact; opinion is irrelevant. The purpose of Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. is to present a Christian alternative to the students and/or faculty on college/university campuses; to minister to the needs of the whole person (spirit, soul, and body); and to promote an attitude of academic excellence among its members.
Will there be a main, more concentrated focus for the next 3 years?
Ministry will be our concentrated focus. However, It is my goal to help each of us to see that our ministry is in everything we do and achieved by our form (fraternity/sorority). We must broaden our view of what we have traditionally called “ministry”.
08
Is Team Brown looking to change what the current National President and Board have implemented or to enhance what they have done?
No, our objective is not CHANGE. As the need for adjustments arises, we will not shy away from change but we are not focused on it. As I shared at our convention in 2008, during the election process, we must be careful when riding the wave of change. Change must be properly and thoroughly assessed before deciding to do so.
09
Where do you see ANQ 5 years from now?
In five years, Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. will be in its second wave of rapid growth. This will primarily be through Alumni empowerment to accomplish our ministry calling. Our infrastructure will provide greater balance of power through empowerment of the Council of Founders, establishment of a Board of Directors, and a streamlined National Executive Board. I am excited about what I see in ANQ’s future!
